Another incident from the scriptures

Hare Krsna!

Here is a beautiful incident from the scriptures about the glories of Vedic Cow.

Nandini cow says to Maharaj Dilip – Don’t consider me just giver of milk. When I am pleased I can fulfil all your desires. This story also depicts the importance of Holy cow. Once Maharaj Dilip was traversing the forest and he saw Nandini cow being attacked by a lion. Maharaj Dilip went to save the cow and the lion demanded that he also being the citizen should also be fed. Maharaj Dilip offered his own body to lion as food. Maharaj Dilip was unopposed, religious, courageous king. How valuable should he have been? Still Maharaj Dilip did not mind his life being at risk knowing well that it is more important to protect the cow than to protect the king. At that time Nandini cow instructs Maharaj as mentioned above.

Mata Sarva Devanam

Hare Krsna!

The scriptures say the following about the cow, “Tvam mata sarva devanam.” – Means you are mother of all demigods as well. Cow is mother of all 33 crore demigods as well. Cow nourishes all in this universe and that why she is called mother. She is mother of all demigods, sages, humans and all living entities on face of earth. The main pran (living force) for all living entities are received from Mother cow (Vedic cow – http://mgdas.com/2010/04/vedic-cow/). (more…)

Mood of Cow Protection

Hare Krsna!

In this world there are three moods in which people protect cows.

  1. First they protect cows just because they according to their culture should be protected. They protect cows because Cow is sacred entity and it should be protected and not killed.
  2. Some people give charity to protect cows and they think that is their responsibility that is to give some charity to protect cows.
  3. Others devotedly try to protect cows as per vedic instruction but lack of knowledge prevents them from fully appreciating the vedic statements about the glory of cows, their greatness and divinity.

The Vedic Cow.

DSCF6336.jpg (1024×768)

Hare Krsna!

Here I am going to discuss what the Vedic cow is and its description in Vedic scriptures. Vedic scriptures give specific descriptions of cow and the anatomy and we will see how it fits perfectly with cows in some parts of world esp. Indian subcontinent, Africa, south America etc and how most of cross breeds like Jersey, Brown Swiss, Holstein, Belgian Blue etc. doesn’t match the Vedic scriptural description.

I am aware that in western countries vedic cows are not easily available. But I request all to please read following points with open mind. There is always some discussion on cow urine of Indian (I would call it vedic) breeds and non vedic (which we call western) breeds. I am not making following statements as I am from India and neither because I hate western things. There is no prejudice on my side and I hope there should not be prejudice on the readers’ side as well. Let’s discuss analytically. But reasons and logic are mentioned and I request all open-minded readers to go through the article even though it is a bit long.

Of course this distinction does not at all, ordain or permit the slaughter of non-vedic cows. We have to be non violent towards all living entities. But Vedic cows have to be specifically protected. So although it is our duty to protect every species of life, we have to understand that according to the sastras, very specific species are considered auspicious and worshipable.

In Vedic scriptures cows are called as mothers and their products are called amruta i.e. nectar or elixirs. But today the scientists call milk as white poison. What may be the reason for this? I am not trying to break hearts of those who have cared for Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss and other such breeds of cow like species but then I cannot also restrain myself from speaking based on Vedic scriptures. Again, my only request to all is, please read complete post and then make an opinion and comment.

Vrindavan Yatra Reflections – Part II

All+pictures+285.jpg (1024×768)

Hare Krsna!

Vrndavan dham ki jaya.

What Krsna promises and expects in Bhagavad Gita.

There are few themes which are spoken repeatedly in Bhagavad gita by lord  Krsna. I am discussing two of those today. They are as follows.

  1. Equanimity in all conditions of life.
  2. Developing loving devotional service unto him.

To make it more authentic I would give the exact quotes from bhagavad gita before going ahead with discussion. These quotes are from verses of Bhagawad gita only. In these verses Sri Krsna directly speaks of these two points. (more…)
