This also has many uses viz. Water purifying, washing vessels, on wounds, as pesticide, grain preservation etc.

First I will speak about cow dung ash being used for water purifying. Purifying water is a serious issue. Either we have to add chlorine or some other chemical. At least we have to boil the water. In emergency situations, fuel may not be available for boiling. Adding chlorine etc has its own defects and side effects. Cow dung ash is an excellent water purifier. Dung available from one fully grown cow/ bull is around 5.4 tonnes per annum. so dry dung will be around 54. x 0.30 = 1620 kg per annum. This is equivalent to 712 kg of dry wood. This amount of wood comes from 6 large trees. So by keeping one old cow or bull alive we protect 6 large trees per annum from felling. Read the rest of this entry »

Cow dung cakes has multifarious uses. The most important being cow dung cakes used as fuel. Again Indian government is spending crores of Rupees in form of subsidies on cooking gas. Instead of that if few crores are spent on maintaining pasturing grounds and raising the pedigree of cows then very cheap and most eco friendly fuel will be available to all the fortunate people who stay in village and also to those unfortunate ones in cities. Manure made from cow dung is best suitable for agriculture for earth, plants  and humans who ultimately consume the grains and other products. Even hay from such agriculture is better for cows and other cattle that eat it. There is no other manure as cheap and as eco friendly as cow dung manure. Cow dung manure comes from waste.
