True Story! – Epilepsy & The foolish vaishya

Hare Krsna!

EPILEPSY:

Once a devotee from USA had epilepsy. It was a severe case and he had to  take medicines regularly. The devotee was from a very rich family. He could have lived his life in full opulence and comfort without having to work. Once he had gone to an ayurvedic doctor in India for his epilepsy treatment, who also had knowledge of jyotisha(astrology). The doctor told him that in last life he was a very pious person Brahman in India and follower of vedic culture. But once in fit of anger he had kicked a cow on its head. So because of his this action, he had a disease of epilepsy even though he had taken birth in an opulent family. This is an example of the severe reaction one has to undergo for offending a cow.

FOOLISH VAISHYA:

In a village there was once a well settled, rich vaisya (mercantile) family. The family was huge, consisting of 70 – 75 people. There were many cows in their house. One cow amongst them would create lot of disturbance during milking and while grazing. The family decided to sell it for slaughter. Once a butcher came to the village and they sold the cow to him. When the butcher was untying the rope to take the cow, she stood up and started walking ahead of butcher as soon as she was released. Village neighbours tried to stop the family from selling the cow to butcher. They pleaded unto the merchant to take the cow back as she is laxmi (goddess of fortune). Please don’t allow the butcher to take the cow. But the family did not listen. Cow was ultimately slaughtered.

In the dream the head of family saw that the cow was cursing him, “you could not understand me properly and hence sold me to heartless butcher. So now you shall be doomed soon.”

In a  short time, a great storm and flood came and his all grains were washed away. He had accepted people’s money and jewellery for safe keeping and all of that wealth was kept in safe locker was washed away in flood. Soon a plague attacked the village and except for a few villagers, around 60-70 members of his family died. The wealthy household had to undergo such a severe reaction because of cow slaughter.
