Ayurveda is the medical branch of Vedas. “braham vakya janardanam” – Vedas have emanated from Lord Brahma’s mouth. They are for welfare of everyone. Therefore they are also called aptopadesh i.e. advice by near and dear ones. Cow urine makes one disease free by its prabhav (nature). Prabhav means inconceivable power. “Acintya shakti iti prabhav”. Prabhav is that power which cannot be conceived and described or analysed. Qualities of cow urine are stated in ayurveda. Which cow’s urine should be taken?

  • The scriptures instruct us: “Agramagram charantinamoshdhinam vane vane”. The cow which roams in jungle, exercises herself, fully grazes grass and medicinal herbs as she desires, drinks clean water and is in a healthy state is the right type. Urine from such a cow has medicinal value and should be consumed.

What should be the age of such a cow whose urine can be taken?

Here In this category I am going to speak about glories of Cow urine. Ganga devi resides in cow urine. All qualities of mother Ganga are present in cow urine. Just as when ganga water is filled in a vessel it never gets spoiled cow urine also never gets spoiled. It can be kept for as long as required and not get spoiled. Its colour will change because of copper and other salts but it will never get spoiled. It will get very strong odour and so will become difficult for internal consumption. But for external use it is best. Cow urine has many wonderful qualities and they will be discussed subsequently. All the points mentioned here are fully applicable to vedic cow only. In sanskrit every word has a root dhatu (word). In word krishi the dhatu is kru. From this dhatu word akarshan has come. Akarshan means attracting. So krushi does not only means growing of crops as is done today and is called agriculture. Krushi means growing crops in such a way that it attracts the solar energy. So all the practices in vedic were done with this thought and not like in modern way. Also with this in mind we see the important role of cow in vedic Krushi (agriculture).
